Thank you.
Note: All new notices will be posted at the top of the file, except for
thank you's, which will be added to the end of the list at the bottom of
this file. (This is to save you some reading, since I'm long winded enough
that it could take you a while to look through this file in just a few
more updates. :) Oh, I suppose modified files updates will be placed there
too, for those who are interested. (There being with the other modified
files, ofc. :-)
New Notice: Origin denied me permission to release this program the day
after I released it. Their reason was: "Editors cause too many technical
problems." I can understand their reasoning, so please don't send them
tech support questions when using modified games. Instead, send all such
questions to me. Thank you.
NOTICE: When using non-neutral ships (Civilian craft), do NOT go into the
equipment loadout screen. The game WILL crash due to the lack of graphics
available for these other ship types... Pirate(all), and Military are both
included in this. Get your weapons, equipment, and missiles from the
editor only. Thank you, and have a nice flight.
The documentation...
You should have the following files with this version. If you do not,
goto my web site, and download the newest version from there.
p2edit.exe The editor
p2edit.doc I think you have this one...
register.txt Registration information
revision.doc A listing of the bugs killed, and features added.
First off, let me say that I really wanted Origin's support and consent
on this project, but they never responded to my e-mail, and I can't wait
forever. I still feel that they are a wonderful company, but they need to
take the little people like me more seriously...I do have talent. :)
Part 2...what is it?
This program is designed to royally screw up the save games for Privateer
2; The Darkening...by that, I mean that it will give you just about anything
you could possibly want in that game. I must assume that you probably
already know this though... Personally, I would be reading the dox after I
played with it a bit. :)
Part 2.5...Why?
The reason I wrote this program was because I've played all of the WC
games, and I really tend to miss military ships... I found that with
Privateer 2, I was able to fly them...it took some time, but the thought
did come to me to write a program to share my joy with the other WC fans.
(Hey, I was busy flying Destroyers and whatnot...) I have also been able
to modify the executable, and I'm considering writing an editor for that
purpose...but I'm not sure yet if I should. I know that it is legal now,
anyway...but I want to make sure that it is a good idea too.
Part 3.0...About the Author...(If you can call me that...)
Okay, now for the boring part... I am a novice programmer, and an
expert Code Slicer, as I call it...i.e. Hacking save files, and programs,
rather than systems. I choose a different term to prevent confusion. I call
myself an expert, because I've sliced enough games now that I can't even
remember all of them... I find things that most people (aside from the
programmers) don't even realize are possible. Such as the military ships
being made available in this game. I've come to realize that ALL games
are user customizable...Not just the ones like Duke 3D, and Quake with
their modify-ability...all games have that ability...if you know how to
read ASCII...
Here's a list of some of the games that I've played with...it isn't
complete...and there are a few of them that we plan editors for.
Note: Even if I do manage to break the Diablo encryption, I will not
share my findings under ANY circumstances, nor will I be supporting the
lamers who cheat on Battle.net! If you want to get together with a few
friends, and cheat over an IPX or modem, have fun...but when you are
cheating to kill another person who is just there to have a good time,
I hope your hard drive crashes. If I do break their encryption, I will
ask them to work with me, and allow my programs to detect BATTLE.NET...
Nuff said. :)
Crusader; No Regret
Crusader; No Remorse
Dark Sun Shattered Lands
Diablo (.exe only...they encrypted the saves, and I haven't broken that yet.)

Special thank you to George Broussard of 3D Realms for taking my knowledge

And thank you, the user, who makes my skills worthwhile...yours is the
most important thanks, the one that most people seem to forget. Without
you, there would be no point to doing any of this work...Thank you for your
support.
